A bit more insight into this poem for you. The poem is about a lovely German woman with whom I had a very intense six-month long relationship during a sabbatical year in Germany. In retrospect, probably the closet to a soulmate that I have known. Fate and circumstances intervened (bad timing in the lives of both of us), she had to stay in Germany for several reasons. Of course, I returned to the U.S. As the third to the last line indicates, this was in 1989.
